Band, disc and frame saws – types and kinds

- Band saws – this type of saw has band saws with a movable cutting unit. The cutting unit moves along the cut log on a track. The feed is manual or automatic depending on the model. The cutting band is mounted on two wheels. Band saws have one or more cutting heads. They have a long track on which we place the prism intended for cutting. Some models have hydraulics installed, thanks to which you can easily place the log on the track without any effort. The hydraulics include: log loading, rotation, leveling and wedging of the log, a set of support arms. Additionally, you can install a debarker (collects bark from the log), a microprocessor display of the cutting thickness (on the panel we enter the dimension we want to obtain), etc. These machines are divided into:
- Vertical sawmills – saw wood using band saws positioned vertically.
- Horizontal sawmills – cut wood with horizontal strips.
- Stationary sawmills – they are usually attached to the ground in such a way that they cannot move during operation.
- Mobile sawmills – have wheels and a hitch, so they can be moved quickly and easily.
- Disc – the cutting tools in disc saws are discs that are mounted on spindles. Disc saws can have one or more discs. The material being cut moves on a chain towards the disc. It is pressed from above by feed rollers.
