Which edge banding machine to choose - what equipment?
Every customer who decides to buy any furniture pays attention to the quality of its finish. Cabinet fronts, with precisely finished edges, without any joints, with perfectly milled edges ensure full satisfaction of both the customer and the carpenter. To achieve such an effect, you need a suitable machine, which is an edge banding machine.
Let's start with what it is and what it is used for.
It is a carpentry machine that is used for gluing the edges of various types of boards with natural edges, PVC, ABS, etc. It can glue rectilinear and curvilinear elements. Edgebanders come in different versions - from small portable devices used in home workshops to large professional machines located in mass-producing carpentry workshops.
Equipment of edge banding machines:
- A plate - a veneer is laid on it
- Tape feeder – he feeds the veneer from the plate for further processing
- Guillotine – used for pre-cutting the veneer
- Pre-cutter – two diamond heads, thanks to which we get straight edges of the workpiece
- Plate heating – the strip heats the board before applying the glue
- Glue tank – there are 2 types of glue: granules and cartridges.
- Pressure rollers – their task is to properly press the veneer to the material
- Balls – an aggregate that cuts off excess veneer with balls
- cutter – it is used for milling the excess edge on both sides of the mat. The cutter can be straight or radial
- Making corners – thanks to this aggregate, you can get rounded corners on which there are no traces of cuts
- Scraper – is used to remove excess glue
- polishers – cleans and polishes the processed edge of the veneer
Straight line edgebanders
They machine straight edges. These machines are characterized by high precision and are more automated compared to curved machines. They have high efficiency, thanks to which they are perfect for mass-producing processing.
Edge banders
They machine elements of irregular shapes. They are mainly used in plants with lower capacity and are less automated. They can be used as a supplement to rectilinear edgebanders. Their main advantage is that they take up little space and are easy to use. They have lower energy demand and their price is lower. Unlike rectilinear banding machines, this type of carpentry machines can be used for banding both curved and straight lines.
