The construction of three-sided planers/thicknessers is similar to single-sided thicknessers. There are pawls at the top that prevent the material from being thrown away. Then there is a pulling shaft, toothed (straight, sequential or torsional) and a material pressure. Behind the pressure there is a planing shaft, after which there is also a pressure, and at the very end there is a smooth output shaft (metal or rubber). Adjustable rollers are usually mounted in the table top. Two vertical spindles (right and left) are built into the end of the table top. Planer heads or cutters can be mounted on them. Thanks to them, the machine tools create e.g. grooves or feathers on the side surfaces. The spindle spacing is adjusted manually, using a key or electrically. Some spindles are also adjusted up / down. They are driven by separate motors. In some models, additional pressures are used at the heads and between them. The feed speeds, similarly to thicknessers, are given or adjusted smoothly. The processing height of the element in this type of machine is lower as opposed to single-sided processing, because we are limited by the height of the side axes.
